Recipe:
- Let's start with making chakulya. It's a very easy and quick recipe. We need to cook both lentils first. Mix both the lentils and wash it very well and cook it till becomes soft. In 2 cups of water, we need to cook it. The preferred way to do it in a pressure cooker to 4 vessels.
- In a pressure cooker, we need to put other pot inside it. Add all lentils with 2 cups of water and there is other water also outside the pot in cooker.
- Now we need to make dough out of the wheat flour. We need to add half tablespoon of salt, half tablespoon of red chilli powder, turmeric powder and some garam masala in it. The dough should be in medium consistency, not so hard, not so soft, rest it for 10 min.
- We need to make one spice for our chakulya, take a grinding jar, add all the garlic cloves, dedicated coconut, green chilli, chopped coriander, 2 curry leaves and grind it well.
- Now heat up the deeper pan and add oil in it. Heat it up, then add mustard seeds, let them make some noise 😋 add cumin seeds, remaining curry leaves, hing or asafoetida, turmeric powder, chilly powder and the mixture, which we grind earlier.
- Mix it well and fry it for half a min till you will get a luxurious smell from it. Don't burn it, we need to cook it on low flame.
- Now smash the lentils, which we already cooked and add it in the pan, we can smash it after adding it in the pan also. Now add 4 cups of normal water in it, add some salt as per the test and lemon juice also. Mix it well and let it boil, till that we will do other stuff.
- Take the dough and make the 3 to portions out of it. We need to roll it in thin roti, as shown in referral images and cut it in diamond or square shape.
- Now once the lentils mixture will boil, add the cuts in that gradually. We need to mix the chakulya in between. The most important thing, make sure your lentils mixture is boiling continuously when you are adding the cuts, otherwise, it will stick to each other.
- After adding all of the cuts, boil it for 2 more min and your chakulya are ready to eat. Serve it hot only, it will get stiff after it becomes cold. While serving add some ghee or butter on top of it.
Tips:
1) Add a spoon of sugar in it, when adding lemon, it will increase its test. But some people don't like sweetness in Chakulya. Serve some papad and pickles with it.
2) Garlic, hing or asafoetida and coriander are placing an important role in this recipe, so don't forget to add them.
This delicious dish contains around 200 calories in one serving plate. It contains full of protein and fibres, with the delicious test. The lentils are the topmost source of nutrition to our body. This recipe also contains wheat flour, means the balance of carbs also here.
